Kissing Your Man in Public

Do you hesitate to give your man un beso (kiss) in public? Do you grab your dude’s hand when walking through the mall? How about pulling him in close to you while walking
Photobucketdown the street? Public Display of Affection or PDA isn’t given a second thought in heterosexual relationships but for us gay men and women, things are different. Public displays of affection can lead to harassment, violence, even death.

A recent ABC special revealed what we all have known as gay men- what happens when you show your significant other some love in public. The show was an experiment to test the public’s reaction to homosexual PDA. Conducted in Birmingham, Alabama ABC hired two good looking male actors to lightly cuddle and flirt on a public park bench. The reactions from onlookers were typical; disgusted faces, staring, whispering, a harsh word or two. Someone even called the police on the boys, complaining of indecency. The lesbian couple had better luck. The actresses behaved equally on the park bench and got many of the same reactions but not as frequently. Straight men actually seemed to be mesmerized by the spectacle. Of course, two women are the heterosexual male fantasy- again something we all knew. Two males on the other hand is a threatening thing to our male dominated heterosexual society. Either way it was clear, homosexual PDA is still not something widely accepted in American society.

Not everyone reacted negatively
. Some people were extremely open and accep
ting, usually the younger generation. This is a good sign that we are slowly making progress to a more tolPhotobucketerant society. There are still those that insist on spewing hate and violence. So I ask again, what do you do when in public with your significant other?

One thing I miss about being in a heterosexual relationship is being able to show
affection in public. When I’m feelin’ someone, I show it. Being able to do so in public is a luxury, unfortunately we do not" have. Personally, I choose carefully where I show affection in public. To me, life is filled with enough hassles without someone harassing you for who you are while out for a relaxing dinner or a chill walk in the park. In certain instances you can get away with it, depending on where you are. How many of us would hold hands with our man in the barrio or the hood? Reactions could be extremely unwelcoming and potentially violent. For some of us who live in gay friendly cities like San Francisco and New York, PDA isn’t as much of an issue.

Hopefully one day same sex PDA will be something widely accepted by everyone.
Until then, those of us in ultra conserva
tive cities will continue to exchange affectionate glances with our dudes at the mall, sneak a quick smooch behind tinted car windows and hold hands under the arm rest at the movie theatre. Not the ideal way to live as an American citizen but it does make for an interesting date…..

But that’s just me. How do you handle PDA with your man? I’d like to hear from you. Vote at the poll on the top left hand corner of YOCISCO.com or comment back on this blog. Cisco's Review:

The product, overall is quality. The first impression is the refreshing, light scent. It smells clean and doesn't leave a residue on your skin but still leaves it feeling soft. It isn't heavily perfumed and contains many essential ingredients for your skin including whole leaf aloe vera. The body wash comes in a 18.5 oz bottle and retails for $22. A little pricey compared to grocery store body washes but if you can afford it, its worth the money. Click here to buy the product online.

Skin Tip from Sabina and Sephora

After using a body wash, try rinsing with cool water and always avoid hot, hot showers . Pat yourself dry instead of rubbing the towel on your skin. This helps prevent drying and maintains moisture.

Results from the YOCISCO.com Economics Reader Poll

In a recent YOCISCO.com reader poll, I asked how badly the economy was affecting you. The results were interesting but predictable. Sixty percent of the people that voted are either broke or barely making it. The other 40% were somewhat affected or not affected at all by the spiraling economy. I am suspecting most of it has to do with the high gas prices that are affecting prices on everything else.

A slow economy eventually has an affect on everyone in some way or another. For the 60% that said they are having hard times, it is so important to vote this November. This country is badly in need of change and only our vote can make it happen.

Much luv,

Kissing Your Man In Public

Hey Cisco, my name is Jedd I live in Worcester MA a city about 45 mins from Boston. I'm only 17 years old and My Boyfriend & I (he's 18) hold hands, hug, and kiss in public. We don't do it to put on a show or to test societies acceptance of gay couples but just because thats how we are together. Yeah we're pretty young, and in my city there is a large gay population but still some people are not used to it. We've gotten the stares, snarls, snickers, laughs, pointed fingers and even shout outs either encouraging by my generation or rejections (mostly straight men) calling us fags. There has been occasions of confrontation mostly on my part cause I stand up for the two of us when we do get thoes crude comments & stares and so on but nothing to intense, most of the time I just say "do you have a problem?" or "how can i help you?" haha mean but polite at the same time.

Basically my outlook on Same Sex PDA is if you give off a confident vibe to the people around you or who will walk by you they will leave you alone because if you act like its normal to you other people will too, but if your paranoid about it or not yet too comfortable to put yourself out on that level people will notice and try to put you down. But the gay community as a whole should start getting more used to it and not caring about what other people think or say so progress on things like things will get better over in time for future gay generations.

Gay Marriage in California

Good News for us, this shows we are making some progress! Just thought I share this in case you don't know yet!

California's top court overturns gay marriage ban
By LISA LEFF – 9 hours ago

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — In a monumental victory for the gay rights movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest state to tie the knot.

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in striking down the ban.

Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as the news spread.

Jeanie Rizzo, one of the plaintiffs, called Pali Cooper, her partner of 19 years, and asked, "Pali, will you marry me?"

"This is a very historic day. This is just such freedom for us," Rizzo said. "This is a message that says all of us are entitled to human dignity."

In the Castro, historically a center of the gay community in San Francisco, Tim Oviatt started crying while watching the news on TV.

"I've been waiting for this all my life," he said. "This is a life-affirming moment."

The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted the monthlong wedding march that took place when Mayor Gavin Newsom opened the doors of City Hall to same-sex marriages.

"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody — not just in the state of California, but throughout the country — will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco.

The challenge for gay rights advocates, however, is not over.

A coalition of religious and social conservative groups is attempting to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine laws banning gay marriage in the state constitution.

The Secretary of State is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signatures to qualify the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states.

If voters pass the measure in November, it would trump the court's decision.

California already offers same-sex couples who register as domestic partners the same legal rights and responsibilities as married spouses, including the right to divorce and to sue for child support.

But, "Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," Chief Justice Ron George wrote for the court's majority, which also included Justices Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar and Carlos Moreno.

In a dissenting opinion, Justice Marvin Baxter agreed with many arguments of the majority but said the court overstepped its authority. Changes to marriage laws should be decided by the voters, Baxter wrote. Justices Ming Chin and Carol Corrigan also dissented.

The conservative Alliance Defense Fund says it plans to ask the justices for a stay of their decision until after the fall election, said Glen Lavey, senior counsel for the group.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has twice vetoed legislation that would've granted marriage rights to same-sex couples, said in a news release that he respected the court's decision and "will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

The last time California voters were asked to express their views on gay marriage at the ballot box was in 2000, the year after the Legislature enacted the first of a series of laws awarding spousal rights to domestic partners.

Proposition 22, which strengthened the state's 1978 one-man, one-woman marriage law with the words "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California," passed with 61 percent of the vote.

The Supreme Court struck down both statutes with its sweeping opinion Thursday.

Lawyers for the gay couples had asked the court to overturn the laws as an unconstitutional civil rights violation that domestic partnerships cannot repair. A trial court judge in San Francisco agreed with gay rights advocates and voided the state's marriage laws in April 2005. A midlevel appeals court overturned his decision in October 2006

Skin tip

Also for a lower priced but effective skin care line, Nivea for men is decent and comes in various skin type--normal, oily, sensitive/dry. Nivea for men has a range of cleansers, pre shave, after shave, moisturizers, eye creams, toners all created for male skin. Although its not my preference, I used some while travelling and liked it as a stand by.

Its about time that the market for men's skin care has evolved so that there are mulitple lines of men's products from low priced to high priced.
I have found there are effective and ineffective products at all price levels...

PDA

What would have been interesting to also had straight couples showing the same degree of affection in front of the peopole that viewed the gay couple. This would show were the viewers turned off by sexual orientation of the PDA or just by PDA in general. Some straight people including some friends of mine just dont like viewing PDA by straights or gays and are turned off by watching other people make out regardless of sexual orientation.

Some people including myself are more old fashioned and are not into too much PDA(watching or participating) whether the people are gay, straight, young or old..
For me intimate affections are reserved for the privacy of a secluded spot where my attention and my lover's are focused on eachother and not people around...

Although I tend to agree the reality is that gay PDA is not as acceptable, YET, as straight PDA. Its evolving. Up until the 1960's interacial PDA was not acceptable and progress has been made in this area as well...

Kissing your man in public

Although I am not a man, I feel you should do as you please. I remember one day I was in Manhattan, New York and I saw a gay couple. They were laughing and playing around, and at some point they kissed. At first I was startled, not because I was offended but I thought it was beautiful and I thought that they must have had some courage to do that in public. Even though New York is gay friendly, you still have your a**holes. I believe that as long as a person treats you right and with respect and loves you, it doesnt matter what gender your partner is. Now when Im with my man or girl, yes i love the both, I do as i please. Funny thing is I usually get more looks when Im with my man, not my girl...muazz
