McCain Will Not Choose a "Pro-Gay Rights" Running Mate

As the schizophrenic branding of John McCain continues—vowing to run a "respectable" campaign while double-teaming with Joe Lieberman to attack Barack Obama's patriotism—the Republican presidential wannabe makes one thing aboundantly clear: A pro-choice running mate is more acceptable than a "pro-gay rights" running mate.

Speaking aboard his campaign plane to the neo-conservative Weekly Standard, McCain "said that he is open to choosing a pro-choice running mate" and named former Pennsylvania governor and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge as meriting "serious consideration" as opposed to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "I think it's a fundamental tenet of our party to be pro-life but that does not mean we exclude people from our party that are pro-choice. We just have a--albeit strong--but just it's a disagreement. And I think Ridge is a great example of that. Far more so than Bloomberg, because Bloomberg is pro-gay rights, pro, you know, a number of other issues.''

In July, Weekly Standard Editor in Chief Fred Barnes argued McCain needs is "going to have" to start cticizing gay rights issues. Mission accomplished.
