Heinz Mean To Queens
The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority has received over 200 complaints about the Heinz Deli Mayo TV ad that had been running for less than a week.
Consequently, Heinz has decided to voluntarily remove the ad from on-air.
Viewer complaints called the sight of two men kissing in the ad for the mayonnaise as “offensive”, “inappropriate” and “unsuitable to be seen by children” and may force parents into having the discussion about same-sex relationships with their kids.
Some gay rights groups have called for a boycott of Heinz products because of the knee-jerk reaction.
The ads shows a brother and sister picking up their sandwiches from ‘mum’ before going to school.
The ‘mum’, it turns out, is a male New York deli attendant, and as the kids’ father picks up his sandwich he says “see you tonight, love”, to which the deli attendant replies, “hey, ain't you forgetting something?”
The father then plants one on the lips and leaves the house with the deli dude calling out “love you. Come straight home from work, sweet cheeks.”
A spokesman for Heinz said the ad was intended as “a humorous take on a slice of life”.
Some people are seriously lacking in a sense of humour.
